10 min sketch

by Pantojadavid3, March 4th 2020 © 2020 Pantojadavid3

Done as part of a 30 minute class.

My current goal is: Better understand human anatomy, so I can render imagined poses

I think it is a really good sketch, but the neck and shoulder dont really stand apart from each other.

Thank you. What would you reccomend to help that?

Nice work, Pantojadavid, keep up the good work, and you'll get better at understanding the human anatomy so you can, and shall and will render imagined poses. My request is: Do another figure sketch in 10 minutes, if you pretty please??

I think that you should work on your pencil strokes. What I find works best is to simplify the body into angular triangles and squares, not circles. Then, you add the curved edges with a bunch of straight lines. I don't know if you were intending on having it be very loose, but it would be more cohesive and look clearer if the lines were more concise and less uncontrolled. It would level up your artwork. I recommend looking at sketches from leonardo davinci and john singer sargent. When I look at your art (no offense) it looks amateur. If you would like to improve your anatomy, a strong control of your drawing utensil is necessary. Practice shading styles. I'm assuming this piece was done on an IPad with an Apple Pencil by the looks of it. Try using traditional media- use crosshatching, hatching, scumbling, etcetera. Do some blind contour drawings. Control your pencil! Love your work- so loose and expressive.
