Alien

Did this as a part of Aaron Blaise's courses. Even with intended changes, repeated after someone feels deceivingly easy and supposed to be this way?

The head looks cut off from the torso.
It is better to always draw the shoulders of the character, it looks more coherent.

The drawing is not bad! Good luck

I really like the skin texture that you created with the shadows on the alien's skin. It gives it a realistic touch while also clearly showing something out of science fiction. The forehead of the brain of the alien is especially well done with the veins (those are veins right?) that pop up. The way you played with the shadows was very intricate and maybe instead of blurring the rest of the picture, you could perhaps work with more shadows and lights to focus the attention on the character's gaze.

I understand the blurring, but I think it would be more striking if you replaced it with lighting contrasts, like a streak of light onto the eyes. You could still blur the top and the bottom too, just maybe not too much on the bottom since the style completely changes when I look below its face.

Overall great work!

Many thanks! I also think the shadows are beautiful here.

In fact, I just repeated the lesson of Aaron Braise (but I added "earrings", changed the shape of the head and the sex of the creature) so this is not my merit, just like the idea with blur is also not mine, but what I was able to at least repeat warms my heart, hehe

This looks amazing! Well done!

I think replicating another piece/conept ususally feels deceptivly easy, but it still makes for great practice and training as an artist!

I really like the blue lighting used here! Your character has a very expressive face!

Perhaps using a smaller brush for those highlights running down the center of the forhead. I think you were trying to include a bit more contouring and shadow as well here to give it the sense that its more of a protrusion. Right now it reads a bit more as an indentation. If you were going for an indentation her you might want to shift those highlights a bit to the right since your lighting is going to be partially blocked by the other side of the head.

Amazing! That's a very strikingly beautiful digital painting, Ailinon.

Well, if I could provide you a completely and sincerely honest critique, then it would be that there's not enough caricature of the lines and shapes, spaces, and forms going on that alien portrait. Why don't you please distort this painting even further with 10 minutes of 30 second warm-ups? (20 warm-ups of aliens, humans, heads, animals, and sea creatures)

The reason why you could do this is because, it could and should be able to help you make your drawings and paintings really funny and exaggerated in their sketches.

And so, Ailinon, my hat's off to you, and I hope you'll find these generally useful.
