April 23, 2021 4:13pm #27023Hello buddy, your gesture drawings are nice, but if you really want to improve in art you should not only focus on gesture drawing, because gesture drawing to be good needs also solid perspective and form understanding, I'm not really good at gesture drawing but you can check how I do them on my ig https://www.instagram.com/p/CN8L5BWhF23/
My advice to you is learn perspective and constructing 3d forms and come back at gesture drawing after a while, this way you'll turn off from gesture and come back at it with a new perspective (got the joke? study perspective to get a new perspective, haha ik so funny).
I hope this was helpful, if you have any other question feel free to ask.
1April 19, 2021 1:37pm #27002When drawing gesture your main focus shouldn't be proportions, but as you said before, flow, energy, force all those things make a good pose, proportions come later.
April 19, 2021 1:15pm #27001Hello Qbicc, to be fair what you're doing isn't really gesture drawing, you're drawing advanced stickmans in the 1 min or less poses, gesture is subjective, but there are a few guidelines to what a gesture should and should not be, it's a rather long topic, so I'll link you a good source on this subject :

Also an another major factor is that in the 5 min poses you're paying too much attention to the outline of the figure, all the little bumps and details that are not meant to be drawn in a gesture, this is also explained in the gesture video I linked above.
However don't worry, gesture is hard and figure drawing is a complex area, you should be patient and just practice a lot and study a lot too!
If you feel like you didn't get a certain thing, like what gesture is after a day or two, just search for it on the net, there will be a ton of free information!
April 19, 2021 1:06pm #26998Hello Majavhv, hands are rather a complicated topic, and improving in drawing them really depends on what your goal is:
If you want to draw them only from a reference, then just practice and maybe do some gestural drawings of hands, also knowing the anatomy of them wouldn't hurt tbh.
However, if you want to be able to draw expressive hands from imagination the road is much longer, during which you'll need to study many aspects like : anatomy, gesture, construction and shading.
My main advise is to search on youtube for more in depth information.
Have a great day/evening.
April 18, 2021 1:14pm #26984Hello theo, you're doing great! I really like the sketchy and scribly way you do your 1 min practices.
However you may want to try and alternate between some sketches with more of a decided line(the CSI thing, check it on internet good sources are proko gesture video), but apart that the greatest improvement you can get, in my opinion is by learning about perspective and construction of boxes and cilinders from imagination, I can tell that rn your faces above everything else lack a sense of solidness, you can improve them by first studying perspective and secondly by studying the planes of the face; those topics should be easy to find anywere on the net.
I hope this was helpful, have a greate day/evening
April 17, 2021 10:38am #26979Hello, it's nice to see such a devoted artist; as for your practices, if your goal is to study figure drawing then the main problem that I see is that you're not trying to capture the gesture but instead looking for proportions.
Proportions in a figure drawing are important, but the come later in the run, first you have to get a feeling for gesture, to do so don't use straight lines but curvy ones like the s or c, a really good source of info for that is the proko channel on youtube

I hope it'll help you improve and make your journey much more enjoyable!
