Second 30 min session after long break, in Procreate
© 2019 Eirik87Trying to reduce the number of lines I use, for a cleaner result. Arms and legs are where I feel i struggle the most with this. Especially when they're sort of straight on and forshortened... uncertainty creates scribbles.
Also not used to drawing in Procreate on tablet :P This is something I want to learn though, so thought I'd kill 2 birds with one stone using it in line-of-action sessions.
Done as part of a 30 minute class.
My current goal is: Better understand human anatomy, so I can render imagined poses

Thanks Hornet, I could probably be doing more looking and less scribbling in the beginning of the drawings. However I rarely draw longer poses than 10 minutes :D
The 10 line gesture; were your lines mostly contoure lines or volumes then? Did you mean the "skeleton" lines with circles in each joint when you mentioned "wire contours"?

Your under drawings are nice and light which make your final lines look cleaner, keep, practicing and I’m sure your arms and legs will improve but in these sketches they look fine!

Fewer lines is a goal that I had for some time as well and I can give you some specific feedback about how I worked toward that.
In any pose that I drew that was longer than 1 minute I started just spending a minute or so LOOKING rather than actively drawing. Often as artists when we are on a timer we are so focused on getting as many lines down in the time limite that we have we are laying down lines before we have fully taken in the full figure.
So I started spending at least 30 seconds to a full minute just looking.
When I have 25 minutes or more for a pose I commit at least a minute if not more to looking. I don't time it now. Rather I just relax and draw the imaginary lines in my head. This reduced the number of preliminary lines on my paper.
The next goal I set for myself was to be able to draw a gesture figure in 10 lines or less - without relying on a wire contour as the method of drawing.
It took me about 6 months to create one I was satisfied with. It took me a year before I was confident and able to do this on a consistent basis.
This isn't something that is a goal that everyone needs to achieve, it was something I personally wanted to do. It helped me reduce preliminary lines and some variations of this may help you.
