Day 3: Escaping the rain

Image description: An oil painting showing a window from the inside looking out into a dark area, lit by blurry dots of light in the distance, and raindrops dotting the window all over. --- Paintober day 3: Escaping the rain. I'm a day late posting, almost done with day 4! 😄 I need to stop trying to paint 'perfect' scenes. I feel so dissatisfied with the rain droplets, but since these are daily paintings, there's only so much time I have to complete them. I'm sure I could blend better and make nicer droplets, but you know what? I think it's really dang good.

The rain droplets are INSTANTLY recognizeable as rain droplets. If you can stop beating yourself up about them, stop. They are beyond adequate. And overall, this is a highly evocative piece. I even feel a temperature when looking at it and feel compelled to get a warm mug, a blanket, and a furry animal for the lap.

I appreciate this a lot!

I'm definitely trying not to be too critical of myself. My first couple of VR paintings took a long time, several days to weeks, and I'm doing these once a day instead of taking my time. When I had more time, I enjoyed getting lost in the details and doing stuff like painting all the individual bubbles in the octopus painting. In these dailies that's not really possible, so I'm trying to train myself to put down recognizable things with minimal input.

I also leave out things, so it feels 'inferior' to the reference when the reference still has more details in it than the finished piece. That's definitely not helpful thinking though, and I'm REALLY hoping doing these for a month straight is going to help me overcome that feeling and just enjoy the end product!

Knowing you feel temperature from this also makes me incredibly happy! <3

Nicest job on your colors, tones, and textures, Sanne. It captures the humor and feeling of a rainy night. Please paint loosest and wetest!
