Face sketches

Looks like you are on a great path! Your expressions look great so far and you are experimenting with different ways to view the human head in a 3D space, all of that means you are on the right track.

I have two tips to give you that should help you improve as you continue to practice!

One is that these men need some cranium! Take a look at the human skull, behind the neck the head goes much further back than it does in your sketches. It’s a very common mistake that I see artists make that usually stems from using a circle as a base for the head and attaching the neck to the back of the circle. In reality, the cranium is more like an oval with a jaw attached to one side and the neck jutting out diagonally between the jaw and the cranium.

It’s not perfect, but this is sort of what I mean.

And the second way you could improve is by using less pressure on your pencil when you draw, lighter, quicker strokes allow your hand to learn the motions you are drawing, especially when using a reference, you don’t want to focus too much on the details and instead practice learning the overall forms and how the work together.

Hopefully you found these tips useful! Thanks for offering your art and doing your best to improve!
