I'm pretty new to drawing, and was wondering whether it is better to start timed practice at a shorter time (5 secs, 30 secs), or a longer time (eg. 5 minutes)

As I've been offering some of my figure drawing reference pictures to this site, I'd like to get advice from the artist's perspective.

What kind of lighting is the best for figure drawing poses? High contrast? Well-lit? Do silhouette poses have much value?

Those sketches look great! You can really feel the dynamism and contours.

Maybe try being more confident with your strokes. It can be a tendency to "pet" the sketch with many small lines instead of having long smooth strokes.

Other than that, they look way better than my stuff! Good work!
