Done as part of a 30 minute class.

My current goal is: I don't know! I am an absolute beginner; I'm here to study the basics of rendering

Nice to meet you. I'm participating from Japan. I've joined today. I would be very happy if you could give me a critique. I'm not very good at English, so I'm using translation software to write this text. I'm not very good at English, so I used translation software to write this text.

Hello Akikoma!

My name is Izzy, I'm a comic book artist and I have been drawing my whole life.

I would say for an absolute beginner this is really great! You have a very solid grasp on proportions and definitely know more than you think you do! The hair line and eyes are very well done and you were very successful in creating a three dimensional feeling which is very important with rendering.

I would say in this drawing specifically, I can tell you were struggling with the jaw line and chin. My advice would be to use your drawing strokes more confidently. Only make a line or two and then move on. Blind contour drawing is very very good for this.
I would also recommend spending more time working on the mouth and nose area specifically! They're very complex and even more complex when it comes to rendering.

In any case, I believe this is a very very good place to start! I wish I had such a strong grasp on proportions when I first started drawing. You should be proud of your skill level! :)

Hello Tsilghaah

Thank you.
It was very helpful.
As you pointed out, I had a hard time with the jaw line.
I would like to train myself to get a better shape of the nose and mouth.

What is the "blind contour drawing" that you taught me?
I would appreciate it if you could tell me.
