Quick Sketch - Ink line drawing with watercolour wash. I need to improve on proportions - they are just all over the place on this sketch.

I love how you're giving such an impression of the shadows on these figures - the leftmost one in particular, I'm really enjoying. Just those few brush strokes and it's suddenly so much less flat! In fact, that you washed out the leg on the left, and saturated the leg on our right, is also doing good work. Really admire it, and it looks both effective, and very quick.

For the middle figure - did you start with the face, take longer than you meant to, and then hastily try to fit the rest of the figure onto the paper, or was there a different process? Because I think you got a lot of the personality across, and I'm enjoying the stylization of the features to pick out the characteristics (what a great nose!) that I don't think you needed to do a full pose to match it, if you were rushing to complete it. The clavical line seems to be at the same scale as the head, and then the rest of the body at a smaller scale. I'd have liked to see a half-body version where you weren't quite as constrained?

Looking good!

Many thanks for your critique, I really appreciate it as newbie. I agree with you on the points you have raised - you're spot on with the critique. I admit i do tend to rush into a sketch with my pen or paintbrush. I'm learning to slow down and plan out before commiting to a sketch or drawing. Also to spend a few minutes to observe the picture I'm trying to draw in order to work out proportions and form. However, this is hard.... when i just want to leap in and do it.

thanks again
