Hi! I’m a somewhat returning artist at the age of 22, I have no professional nor college experience when it comes to art since I’m returning for my associates degree relatively recently and I’m aspiring to transfer to an art college such as Savanna College of art and design or Columbus College of art and design. I’m seeking and critique or advice when it comes to my skill, I of course, have drawn plenty of other things, but for my examples given, I’m going to use primarily my figure, line and shape studies since those are some of the key foundations of art.

I’ve been doing this since I could pick up a pencil and I used to be serious about it in high school, but kind of dropped off from it once I graduated but after a few years of drawing irregularly, I decide to return to it consecutively. I feel like my issue is I may be paying too much attention to detail but also at the same time I feel like I don’t have enough detail. I don’t know much about color theory, and I don’t know much about rendering the most I could probably do is a somewhat shaded piece in my own style, but I’m trying to go back to ground one so I can hopefully relearn techniques properly or pick up on things that I was either never taught or never even knew existed. If there are any free classes, YouTube videos or anything else that can be good resources other than line of action for me that I should look into please let me know! Hope to hear some good advice!

    Hi,

Don't be discouraged and don't be hard on yourself. Drawabox.com is free, it starts from the fundamentals, it is a course I am going to do myself. For colour theory off the top of my head I would say James Gurney, he has a couple of books and Youtube.

I would say draw/paint from life as much as possible. Also try using just a pen, it is kind of scary as all the mistakes are there but apparently it is supposed to develop skills although personally I haven't found that myself yet...
