Done as part of a 30 minute class.

My current goal is: Improve at correctly capturing the overall proportions of the human form

You are going in the right direction. The normal unit measurement in human figures is the head. You need to find a drawing of this on the internet. You need to put in time studying human anatomy - muscles & bone structure. Make drawings of what you find and have them at the ready when you draw a figure. Line-of-Action has sections on head/face, hands, and feet. You will not get there overnight. But, if you stick with it you can get there. Practice makes better. Get busy.

The movement is nice in this drawing. try to find basic shapes in the figure, and override what your minds tells you it should look like. try to think in volumes rather than in outlines.

Hey,

The average human being is 7 1/2 to 8 heads tall. A way to properly capture the proportions of the human body is finding body parts that are the relative size or length to another body part. For example, the thigh is about the size of the torso; the eyes one eye width apart; the arms reach to about half the length of the thighs. A way that can help your shapes to come out more accurately is to start with a stick figure with joints. You don't have to draw straight lines as it may make your figure appear to be stiff. In your case it may not be the best idea to draw a whole body part without first shaping it out. Circles, ovals, squares, triangles can be your best friend. There are plenty of examples across the web. I recommend Proko off Youtube as he can go very in depth or even help to simplify things. Just searching gesture drawing may help as well.

I hope this helped.
