Young Brunette December 2020

Media: Ink, Blackliner pens

This is my admittedly fucked up drawing of a young brunettes face. The error lies in the size of the left eye to the right one. It may not be immediately noticeable, but it's there once it's been pointed out. I would like to request critique on my shading work and on my hair.

I cannot identify the source of the light point, because you have shadow on the left side of your face, but at the same time shadow on the right side of your neck. I haven't had time to research yet, but there must be light exercises here. I have the same problem, it seems that the light changes as I put the shadows

Well, I just need to say, that you're doing a much, much, much greater job on your young brunette's face, nallengmb. Greater job on taking your time on the forms and details, while at the same time, quickly laying out the broad strokes. Don't beat yourself up on the eyes, please? You're getting a bit better every day. After all your eye relationships do get better with each new sketch.

However, here's one tiny, littler suggestion: I love so much, of how much of the expressiveness of your expressions are, in this restrained one, but I really like to see some more stronger and human facial expressions. Would you please like to go with 137 minutes of 29 second facial drawing warm-ups??? (137 x 60/29, 8220/29=about 283 expression gestures, all flipped horizontally or vertically)

In the meantime, please check out these two art and drawing books by betty edwards: Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain, 4th and Drawing of the Artist Within, For Creative Powers.

The reasons why you could do this is because of two reasons: 1) To help you see the motions and animations of the eye expressions, though they're assymetrical, which is perfectly fine, because it's more human than perfect symmetry. 2) They have two chapters on the Vase/Face, the Upside Down Drawing, and the Pure Contour Drawing; they are extremely essential for tapping into your right side of the brain.

Have a nice assignment, and have fun, fun, fun!
