Landscape reference turned inspo

I'm not the best at landscapes (like many portrait artists, I tend to "forget" to draw the background in) so I'm trying to get used to dedicating time to a background. It's a bit messy and more painterly than illustrative, but I could use some pointers from anyone with more experience with landscapes! This took about 1.5 hours

I'd say take time to define the shapes and forms of the environment! It's a bit difficult to tell what is what in this image, so try to use a sharper/less soft brush. I do really enjoy the color palette, though!

Good evening, irenedrawstheworld, welcome aboard. How are you? Great work on laying out your gesture, spaces, colors and tones in your landscape, so very finer job, indeed!

Still, I'm not getting enough of that especially looser and bolder broader strokes in your scenes and environments. Would you like to loosen up but lighten up your lines and shapes with 5 minutes of 30 second thumbnail sketches or scribbles of scenic drawings?

I think that you could and should do this little suggestion for not to make a pretty picture, but to warm up your eyes, brains, and hands to do this particular task in sketching out your locations for your observation and caricatures. For most info, please check out a Kindle of Vanishing Point, and for the tones, Alla Prima II.

Hope these things have been totally inspirational and encouraging.
