in my previous critique i had a suggestion to try tapered lines… i managed to squeeze some practice in after watching proko’s video on it and i really like how they turned out!!
not sure how ‘tapered’ all my lines are, but it definitely made me start thinking before placing, which was very cool.
thank you @ajirh for the feedback!November 21, 2025 2:07pm #40013i never thought about this, and now im wondering how ive been doing my strokes this whole time… the next time i draw i will think about this, thanks ajirh!!November 21, 2025 11:50am #40011im really inspired by your line confidence!!!
im genuinely curious, is there any part of the body you start with when you do your gestures? i usually have a lot of construction lines which i think look super noticeable on my works, but i noticed your gesture bodies don't have too many. how do you orient yourself?1November 20, 2025 9:02pm #40008hi etienne!
i really like the defined curves in your sketches here, i think the bottom right is my favorite one :) something about how you draw curves in that sketch really makes the torso feel real and fluid!!
it appears you are using the coil method to figure out foreshortening, which i think is a good approach! if you dont feel super confident in that may i also suggest using boxes?
for me personally i found cubes to be more 'objective' when it comes to perspective since circular objects can be a bit more free form. it helped me personally, so maybe that can help you on your perspective journey!1November 20, 2025 8:52pm #40007drawings here!!! (imgur)
ive been thinking about some old critiques i recieved and i think im gonna try to ween off thinking so anatomically about my studies and try to be more 'flowy', which is something i am not used to since for gestures because i had rigid thinking of being 'accurate' to the picture 1:1...
the later drawings in the imgur i did today, and i feel better about them but i want to get a second pair of eyes to make sure im not deluding myself
thanks for checking out my post!March 14, 2025 10:26am #37720Image Here (All models were selected to be 'nude', so be warned)
Hi all, I did these practices yesterday and I wanted to post them to see if people see anything I don't! I'm pretty happy with these generally speaking, but I know there's always room for improvement!
Thanks,

Hello everyone, I just followed the tutorial for gesture drawing and i'm looking for some feedback! For context I have drawn for a good 9 years but I'm pretty out of practice since I haven't drawn a lot this past year. I feel confident in my gestures, but I still feel like I'm not at the drawing skill I want to be. I'm unsure as to what I need to focus on at the moment. Any and all feedback is welcome!
