Thanks! The more I look at them,...the less I like them. But thank you. I will post some more sketches soon.  You should! God knows that it has been too long since I have done any of these.

Hi Savage! I think that your sketch looks good! To me though, it looks like you may have flattened out the forms. The shading is nice, but one thing that came to mind for me, was that it looks like the arch ( in his waist/ back )was straightened out. I also noticed that in areas like his pectoralis, it seems fairly flat, and not as fleshy/round. These are just my thoughts, I hope that it helps! Nice work anyway!

Hi all, I haven't posted anything yet, so I thought I would post a couple of quick sketches that I did. Comments are welcome! It has been some time since I have done any life drawing, so these are a new start:)

    Hey Modoman!

I think the picture looks great. I did notice though that the right side of his face is in shadow. The left side seems to be in contact with a  light source. I also think that maybe some stronger ( light to dark)  tones might help overall.   I think that looking at your sketch, it would imply that he was in direct sunlight.

    Hi Nearcyded,

I am sorry to hear about your experience/ nervousness about drawing from life. I am an instructor at FIT NYC. I can tell you from my own teaching experience that I would only fail a student if they showed a complete lack of trying or appeared uninterested/ lazy. But this doesn't sound like you.  First I would inform the instructor of your issues. Explain exactly what you stated here. Ask him or her to sit with you and show you how to get started. Watch the instructor and when you feel comfortable have him watch you draw. There is always some hesitation when doing something completely new. But it should not discourage you from trying. Do not be afraid of making the wrong lines, or making a mess or bad drawing. In my field of animation, i was always told  that I wouldn't do a single good drawing until I got the first 1000 crappy ones out first:). Its good advice. Just plow ahead. And remember to constantly ask for help, direction or advice from your instructor. That's what they are there for.

No Problem! I'm glad that it helped! Its great that you continue practicing!  Good or bad drawings, it really doesn't matter as much as you keep at it. The worst thing you can do is feel defeated. Just keep pushing yourself!!!

Hi. Here's my 2 cents worth. I think that you did a good job overall. For me, The most important aspect of any life drawing is Gesture First, then forms/ anatomy and lastly details.  I believe that approaching any kind of drawing with that set of priorities will lead to greater success when drawing. Anatomy is important, but so is the gesture. Without that foundation, and without any feeling of life in the drawing, you are basically left with a stiff diagram of muscles etc. I did a sketch over yours, I hope that you don't mind, and while I didn't have the model to look at, I hinted at some landmarks and tilting of the shoulders to hips etc, that should be taken into consideration when your sketching. These are just my opinions of course, and it is based on my own education. I hope it helps?? Good luck!
