I struggle with this a bunch too, but I would recommend creating guiding lines over the full proportions of the human form so when you make detail work of parts the body you follow the shape and size of forms better. If I had to recommend good study material I’d recommend watching 16 line gesture drawing on YouTube! Good luck!
