Day 22, Ribcages

by Starcursedmass, November 4th 2021 © 2021 Starcursedmass
Done as part of a practice session with poses of 60 seconds in length. One of the lessons we went over in the Foundations challenge was rib cages. I makes sense to start there. I've always used boxes or spheres in the past to represent ribs, but this lesson challenged me to be a little more anitomical. I also in incorperated the observational and measurement skills from the future challenge to try to work on eveything at once. I hope this provides a good base to work from in the future. My current goal is: I don't know! I am an absolute beginner; I'm here to study the basics of rendering, stay consistant with practice.

Good stuff!

If you want to make it flow more, push the angle of the curve past the breaking point, to where it just looks completely wrong, and then back it up just a bit so that it looks right, but it pushing what reality looks like. Really creates a ton of movement.

If you want to make even more movement in the shapes, apply some thicker or darker line weight where you want the eye to go, or where you find the focus of the gesture to be, or even just on the underside of the parts to give it a little 3d feel. Just some fun ideas to add into your marks.

And the rib cage shapes are looking pretty good, keep on observing and making that shape, very helpful.

Greater job on your ribcage quick ruffs, Starcursedmass. Nice work on your lightest lines of your gestures.

My tiniest, littler suggestion could be that your fluidity and expressiveness is loosing some of that coldness in the quick drawings there. Would you please work out those rib cages while standing up, by practicing 1 hour, 30 minutes of 30 second rough drawings? As a result, your ribs will become the most powerful and even most raw-er in your statements. For even more info, be sure to look up some Prokos on his YouTube channel. Happy drawing, and better take care.
