I think the biggest gripe I had with that book is that it was made by someone that already knows anatomy down to a T but absolute beginners (like me) don't know anatomy... so it is quite obvious there is a lack of comunication between me and the book. Also I have his the anatomy book and the first thing I see is "needing to draw with force" and I was like "ok buddy, first I can't understand your gesture drawing because I don't know anatomy but then you tell me I should comprehend gesture drawing to learn anatomy?!".
Dude I gotta tell you it's the first time I felt softlocked in real life. Thanks anyways for what you told me, I guess there is still something to learn there after all.
October 4, 2024 9:46am #32617I've done some poses 5 minutes each, i've spent more time redoing them over and over again, the right pose was the most difficult to me https://imgur.com/a/LQXvaDT
October 1, 2024 12:22pm #32605After reading this book many times not comprehending a lot of what it wanted to teach me I want to ask you, if you had it... what was the thing that revolutionized your way of drawing after reading it?
By the way I've got the 10Th anniversary Edition, I don't know what is different in this version.

September 23, 2024 8:14am #32552Adding to chukio's advice. Drawabox is more directed to drawing boxes from an angle. The 250 boxes challenge personally game me a worse understanding on how perspective works unlike when I was at box n 180, but take it more as a personal advise. Loomis is a pretty advanced resource so unless you have a more technical perspective on drawing I think that might be for you.
2September 23, 2024 8:07am #32551The details look nailed down but to me the fluidity of the pose is lacking. Rather than drawing those figures exactly like they are on the image try drawing them based on how you feel they are, try exaggerate something to make the pose more fluid, use simple shapes for some poses that to you look compact or static. Also good the way you tried to construct the pose with a simple skeleton
2September 23, 2024 8:02am #32550One thing you can change to nail the body parts and gesture down is to trace one big line that compensates for a leg and the back, then you draw a curved line for the moment the leg start and one for the shoulders. Draw a vertical elipse for the rib cage and an other one, horizontally long elipse for the hips area. If you want to see an example ask me. Nice contours btw I think it would be easy for you to simplify the human body.

September 18, 2024 11:32am #32512Hi, I tried to deconstruct a reference in simple shapes and I do not know if I nailed it, the exercise can be found on https://imgur.com/a/cnhb84o

September 18, 2024 11:28am #32511sure, have you ever subdivided a plane in 3d? that's exactly what you did with that cube.^_^
2September 18, 2024 8:23am #32509The very first cube looks like it needs revision the most. when you have to subdivide a surface in perspective you must only devide the segment in 3, or just put equal distance between each parallel line. In this particular case it is not really important tracing the perspective lines, the cube looks to not be that much deformed by the reference. I have to admit it looks way better when one of the row is rotated wich it is admirable by me.
If you ever wanted to know more about 3d shapes try turning pokemon in simple shapes, in case you want to post some you can get better feedback from us. :)
1 1September 15, 2024 4:05pm #32491Really, tanks to everyone that dedicated their time and energy helping me. I will hold onto these insights like they are part of me. Thank you and I hope you a thriving art journey
September 12, 2024 12:49pm #32475I watched both of the live sessions, and I have to ask: what better insight those videos gave you? The instructor started with gesture drawing, and then BAM! Advanced anatomy. I admit it gave me a hard time, maybe there was something wrong with the way I experienced it. I think there should be an intermediate step between the stickman phase and the anatomical fidelity phase.
One particular issue was that when deconstructing a reference I did not find out where a body part starts and where it ends.
Despite all, thanks again for your rensponse.

September 11, 2024 3:55pm #32470I know, quite a long title but i clearely need your help!
I cannot find a place where I can learn any of this stuff, it's not straight up perspective lines i have to study since i know how they work, I also did the 250 boxes challenge and it revealed me it doesn't help me at all understand the 3rd dimension in drawing. I got more out of doing cross contour of pokemon than from this one course that I must reveal someone here that finished it was not really satisfied.
I found one from proko but besides being a proko course it is also incredibly pricy, so please no to any of that.
Thanks and good work :).
September 11, 2024 3:25pm #32469I'm sorry to tell you this. please upload those images as imgur links. the process is pretty simple. you go to https://imgur.com/upload and put the images from your pc. the images are visible to those you share the link with.
