30 minute figure class

by Marie, May 31st 2020 © 2020 Marie

Done as part of a 30 minute class.

My current goal is: Strengthening my fundamentals, especially perspective

Feeling under the weather, am happy I was able to complete a class regardless!

That's a mighty fine job you had done, mariearroyo, although, I've got one tinier request: Would you like to go for yet another 30 minutes of 10 minute figure drawings, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty please, please, please?????? The reason is because, your forces, forms, and details will become even most gutsy and intuitive, and most like go-with-the-flow in delineations. Hope and expect that it'll be successful for you.

It seems 10 minutes would not enough to you. Spend more time to draw full structure. Also scaling up your drawing size would be good to strengthening your fundamentals.. rather than draw quick croquis.. After getting used to draw big, you can draw croquis much more easily..

Hey!

I think you got the basics and you have a very clean and smooth line. Your 30 sec and 60 seconds sketches look good, though I would try to catch more of the gesture and the movement of the pose! Maybe even exaggerate a bit. I look a lot at animation sketches - they manage to capture poses and gesture very well, even if the anatomic strocture suffers a bit.

The 5 minutes and 10 minutes sketches, while good as well, I would have expected you to get into more details. Try to shade and find more... volume, I guess? They are very flat and look more like a cut out drawing. 5-10 minutes should be enough time for you to get into more details, or work on some part of the anatomy that you want to focus on at the moment (for example, the ribcage or the feet). It's not enough to only draw the outline when you sketch for 10 minutes.

In conclusion -

You have an excellent line and a good grasp of the basics. Push yourself more and get into the details in the 5 minutes and more poses!

Don't be afraid to show more gesture and energy, or exaggerate even. Have fun and good luck!
