Facial Expression Exercises

Done as part of a 30 minute class.

My current goal is: Reduce stiffness and make my drawings feel more dynamic, energetic, fluid

Tmxg

I recognize the model, it is very well done ! I think lines and shapes are fluid, pose is dynamic enough.

The perspective: The face is very weel drawn from above but the mouth seems a bit off: The left side of the mouth seems sharper than the right side, while here head is not turned.

I really don't see other improvements to make here for a 30min sketch it is very good.

Thank you for sharing :)

I think you could improve your drawing feeling stiff is by trying to find a line of action through the piece.

For this drawing you could try to find a line of action through the angle of the models shoulders and how this forces their head to move in a certain direction along with the rest of the body. You could also try to look at bones that are superficial to find a line of action or a sense of movement, such as the clavicles for this model.

Say, I think that the forces over the forms of your head is very well but economically drawn with as fewest lines as possible. I feel that the upper and lower lips don't seem too mushed enough in terms of communicating dejection. How would you care to try just doing 46 minutes of 2 minute line of action cartoon faces, using your loosest shoulders underhandedly?

As a result your heads and facial can and will become the least boring and most cartooniest, funniest, and energetic. For most information, kindly look into Fun With A Pencil and Drawing The Head and Hands.

Wishing you nothing but the best!
