hey there, I have a little experience with watercolor, and what helps create softer edges is pre-wetting the page before painting on it to allow it to slightly bleed, which gives it a cloudy effect -the dryer the paper/brush the sharper the paint stroke.

another thing that can help in adding depth and shape to your backgrounds is layering the paint and adding texture.

one more thing. avoid leaving plain white areas - it makes the image look overexposed.

other than that you seem to be on the right track

I've done some more animal studies, particularly with hooved animals and most were done under the 5min mark.

To be honest im not a big fan of fast figure drawings, the timer throws me off and im usually unsatisfied with the results. is it not possible for me to achieve 'fluidity' in my drawings with such great time constraints?

wanted to take a break from human anatomy and try animals instead. went from quick figure sketches with the reptiles to longer detailed bird sketches. not too certain if im doing these right either as they look a bit cartoony or if it's an acceptable style choice?

    hello, it's been a bit.

I've continued to practice my line of action as well as using the guidance of the manual you've linked in a different post, tried to replicate the recommended artist's style of drawing with fluid outlines and harsh cross-hatching. not too certain if I pulled it off tho?

Alrighty. tried the warm-up again, this time using the guidance of the manual you've linked, as well as tried to replicate that artist's style of drawing with the fluid outlines and harsh cross-hatching

I was suggested by a responder to one of my posts that if I want to learn to draw from memory I should try the method of first tracing my reference before drawing it from memory. I did just that as well as annotated the corrections I needed.

hope im doing this correctly. https://imgur.com/qcSTFjq

    Alrighty.

I tried the gesture exercise again with the first batch done in under one minute and took my time on the last bunch. I even opted to use a graphite pencil over the mechanical one to really get that fluidity! https://imgur.com/gallery/sfyhMsy

Really tried to loosen my style this time so I hope there's some visual improvement.

I've followed your advice and tried out the figure/gesture practice you linked to.

Hello, I've used this site a few times before however recently I've decided to make an account in order to interact and learn from other artists.

my overall goal is to become really familiar with anatomy and drawing in general till it becomes second nature to me when trying to draw from memory, however im uncertain if my method of copy practice is the right way of doing so.

under my untrained eye, I believe my drawings are. decent. but I would still like a second opinion on my work. such as whether the hatching is appropriate or if there are certain elements I should improve on.

any feedback would be much appreciated
