The Stink Test II

Crayon on Paper. It is pretty hard to get the colours to look like they do in the drawing in real life. But this is a homework assignment final drawing I thought I'd share. My biggest weakness was the face in this image. I was unsure how to make a subtle sniff face, and the model was using more of a preening, pretty and sleepy expression. So I went for a more neutral face. I know that it could still use work. But it's good enough before I start hitting the paint stage. Thanks in advance for all your critiques and advice on how to improve this image.

The anatomy on this is awesome and the reflection in the back is pretty neat, maybe if you flared the nostrils and wrinkled the nose slightly you would get more of a sniff impresson.

I love the colors you used...my eyes dance around the page and I keep noticing more details. The reflection in the mirror and that vanity...*chef's kiss*. Beautiful.

One thing I notice is the hair in relation to her face needs a little more movement or adjustment. I can't put my finger on it, but it's a little off to me.

I actually really like her expression. It's super peaceful to me, more like stretching and being at home in her body then a sniff test. xD But if you wanted the more sniff effect, maybe a slight wrinkle in her nose and a light downturn to her mouth.

Overall I love the piece.. your use of color, the detail and anatomy is very well done!

Dwarrenart,

Yes, I agree that the hair needs work. Really, the whole head is ...not right, but right enough to hand in, you know?

The hair was one of my pain points- a spot where you are unsure how to execute that part of the image. This hesitation is what you are seeing/picking up in the drawing.

When working with unreal colours as I normally do, it can make some decisions, like hair colour, difficult, so that it stands apart while keeping the whole image cohesive.

Do you have any suggestions I could use to make the hair look more alive without distracting from the overall image? Maybe some colour suggestions?

Thanks so much for your feedback.

All of the best,
