Done as part of a practice session with poses of 5 minutes in length.

My current goal is: Improve at correctly capturing the overall proportions of the human form

Good start - to focus on improving your proportions, don't worry about adding details to your figures. Spend your time making super light guidelines on top of a line of action. Think about how each body part is actually constructed and draw that out.

You can always go back to these drawings and add the details, but challenge yourself to get a sketch that reads as a 3D form of a human without the details. You can add details you don't necessarily see - like cross contour lines - that will help you understand the overall form much more clearly when it comes time to add shading and highlights.

It is easy to jump into detailing your subjects becuase those are easy to pick out, but the best figure gesture drawings have very few details, they convey the motion (and even emotion) of the subject as simply as possible.
