Done as part of a 30 minute class.

My current goal is: I don't know! I am an absolute beginner; I'm here to study the basics of rendering

This one came out halfway decent as one of the of the 10 min sketches I had to do. The legs came out really awkward in particular though. Apologies for the somewhat unclear photos. This was done in a library study room on the LED backside of my drawing tablet. I, personally, love that my tablet came with this feature, but I apologize if its a little weird to see from a photo. I decided not to bring my sketchbook in today. Any feedback and advice is appreciated.

Hello Pathos,

Nice Job for an early attempt. Remember, this is a learning process so continue to practice and develop your skills. Visit the site regularly so you can eventually see some improvement on your early attempts.

Two recommendations:

1. This is primarily about learning about gesture and how it can have more impact on your drawing figures. With this particular drawing, you may want to arch the back more and empasize the movement of the figure. Also, the arms are a bit short. You want to study more on the proportions of the body. The arms of the average human body would reach down to the level of the glutes and hands (open palms) would reach mid thigh. Try to keep this in mind when drawing arms. Andrew Loomis books are good references for this subject.

2. Watch how you are stroking your writing instrument. I know you are using a digital device. They can be very unforgiving when using short strokes to outline the figure. Try limiting how many movements you're making when drawing your outline and that should keep the feathering to a minimum.

I hope this helps. I look forward to your progress. Keep practicing.

Leo
