Figure drawing practice, 4/23/20

by Pilot, April 23rd 2020 © 2020 Pilot

Done as part of a 30 minute class.

My current goal is: Improve at correctly capturing the overall proportions of the human form

I feel like i got a better handle on gesture drawing today, drawing the ribs and hips in instead of just the shoulder and hip lines helped a lot. 30 sec sketches

Try drawing singular brave lines instead of chicken scratching. This'll help you build better linework and make more lines within the time limit. The lines wont look good at first, but thats not what matters right now. What matters is finding the pose! Another way to get better linework is to draw two dots, and draw a line connecting them at most 8 times. Repeat this process in different angles, lengths, and heck if you start feeling brave try curves connecting the dots! Hope this helps!

-Side note if you head to Drawabox.com theres a lot of assignments you can use to help better your lines!

Is there an image you could link to that shows what you're talking about with the two dots thing? I'm having trouble wrapping my head around it

Nicer job on your account, pilot, much, little much nicer job on it. However, I've got one small suggestion: Why don't you do a 1200 second (20 minute) sketch of your figure cartoon, if you pretty, pretty, pretty please? Why? The reason is because that you can get the same feeling and vitality as your 30 second drawings, only really, much, much, much, more than lighter in your touch of your pencil to the paper. Hope you find it a completely and totally useful bit of advice,

Its pretty stiff. Keep things loose and capture the movement. Keep practicing.
