Hands - 30 minutes - last two

by Artzoid, March 30th 2021 © 2021 Artzoid

Done as part of a 30 minute class.

The left is 5 minute, the right one is 10 minute sketches.

My current goal is: Improve at correctly capturing the overall proportions of the human form

Bravo, bravo, artzoid, bravo on your first hand sketches here!!!!

Again, my critique is that all of your hands here have some very choppier lines and, though there is some great solidity and dimension in those hands, they are in need of some caricature in the emotion and humor. Why don't you please completely loosen yourself up with 30 minutes of 30 second gestures of hand poses????? (60 quick sketches) And while you're at it, please check out this link right here??????

The reason why you could and should go with this idea is because, you'd know where and when you'd be able to be more variable, and more, and more flexible with your time limits for practice.

And so, good luck, cheers to you, and I hope you've found this completely and totally useful and informative.

P.S. If this link doesn't work, you can always click around for the 30 seconds pose here.

Thank you for your detailed feedback!

I am not looking to get to realism here, but to be able to re-create any hand gesture I need for illustration. The 30 second sketches are so stressful for me, but it sounds as the right thing to do to get to where I want.

Hi there,

These look like hands, which from my newbie perspective is incredible all on its own.

For the 5 minute drawing: it looks like the wrist widths are uneven. The right wrist is significantly thicker than the left. That isn't entirely inaccurate, but that, combined with the width of the hand itself makes the size uneven.

For the 10 minute drawing: there is a similar proportion issue here. The length of the pinky on the top hand looks little too long, and the thumb on the bottom hand looks small, but not as a product of foreshortening; it also appears to be missing one joint. Although the arm itself disappears, it does look as though the bottom one was drawn with the arm facing in an unnatural direction, instead of flexed straight relative to the top.

Overall, these look very solid.
