Orangutan

Done as part of a 30 minute class. My current goal is: Improve at correctly capturing the overall proportions of animals. I filled two other pages in my sketchbook in this class, but I can't upload them all together for some reason. This one is just the final 10-minute drawing.

I think this is a very solid 10-minute sketch. You manage to capture the gesture of the arms very well. On top of that, your lines look confident and it makes sense. I like the way you've captured the form of the chest, partially using the wraparound fur at the top, which looks like it's got an actual 3D form. One thing I feel you could work on a bit is the legs, which look a little bit too stiff to me; almost as if the monkey is wearing jeans.

Final verdict: You have a good grasp on the proportions and face anatomy, but it might help to work on the dynamism of areas (especially limbs) that do not take part in the main action (in this case, hanging onto the vine).
