60 sec practice

Done as part of a practice session with poses of 60 seconds in length.

My current goal is: Improve at correctly capturing the overall proportions of the human form

Polyvios Animations

Way to go, dcooley, on your 60 second proportion gestures.

Well, if I was to give you a completely and totally honest comment, then it would be that some of the gestural proportions, especially in the bodies and their lines of action are way too off. Why don't you please boil them down in a fewer, quicker, and much confident lines, thru 30 minutes of 30 second sketches? (60 drawings)

The reason why you would and could do this is because, it should be useful to your goal, if you'd be able to capture the overall proportions, then it would be useful if you would be able to reduce the stiffness, and to make them more solid, fluild, and lively. There are plenty of info on drawing human proportions on Youtube and Love Life Drawing, then I'd suggest you'd check them out (even if you have to join it)

So, my hat's off to you, and cheers.

You're searching for the form, which is great! Try and mix it up with some 'tight line sketches' where you don't feel them out, just put them down. So a single line for the arm in one fell swoop. By staying in the searching phase you can feel it out, but at times it is good practice to also practice the 'confident line' if you get me. Perhaps try this with 15-20 second poses. It might look horrible, but it's good practice and also builds confidence :)

This can be a bit more tricky if you are working from perspective angles. Try working from your Line of action/contour line from less dynamic poses. This will help build proper proportions.
