Also, do you have some examples of your work we could look at?June 26, 2018 11:13pm #2561That is thrilling to hear! So far I'm not seeing NaN:NaN anymore since that patch, but I'll keep my eyes and ears open. :)June 26, 2018 8:14pm #2559Don't beat yourself too much about missing a day! Just feel good about how quickly you got back on the horse. :)
I would use the same thread if I were you -- it will make it easy for all of us to see your goals and your progress over time! :)1June 21, 2018 9:16pm #2555Releasing a patch regarding the "too fast timer"... fingers crossed! Please let me know if this performs better for you tomorrow.
Still looking at the NaN:NaN bug you also mentioned (I'm pretty sure this is what the NA-NA-NA you referred to was.) :)June 21, 2018 7:55pm #2554June 21, 2018 2:20pm #538We've gotten reports that a minority of people are experiencing an error where the timer suddenly goes too fast, turning 30 seconds poses into 10 second poses.
So far, I haven't been able to reproduce this error, which means it's nearly impossible to track down and fix. So I'm calling for more help from our community! If you've seen this error, I'm very hopeful you can help me narrow down how to recreate the bug and thus solve it, by answering the following questions for me:
1. What kind of computer or device do you use?
2. What browser do you use?
3. Do you use an browser plugins or extensions? If so, which ones?
4. Does the problem happen every time, or only sometimes? What actions do you take before it seems to start, if any? For example, maybe you skipped an image or unpaused just before seeing this error happen?
Thanks for any insights you can provide! :)June 17, 2018 1:57pm #2544So far, I've been having a lot of trouble getting Alipay working with our contribution software. Still trying though...June 12, 2018 1:06pm #2537I'm really glad you like the site!
We don't have Alipay at the moment, but I'm definitely looking into it. :)June 9, 2018 1:00pm #2531If you don't already have a specific focus, I would start with 30 minute classes every day, following this guide:
Gesture basics #1: Line of action
Gesture basics #2: Head, ribcage and pelvis
Gesture basics #3: Joints
And also keep this practice philosophy in mind as you go: https://line-of-action.com/happens-30-seconds-isnt-enough/
Keep us posted on your progress! :)June 8, 2018 5:14pm #2530@TDG - unfortunately, I'm not able to find any clues what browser or device you're using from Googling that version number. Is there any chance of you upgrading to a more recent browser?
@gizmalley - brilliant to hear!June 7, 2018 9:56am #2522June 7, 2018 9:55am #2521I think your 30 second sketches are excellent for a first shot at that length of time. You're clearly paying attention to the point of the exercise. Also: these sketches are noticeably less stiff than your last batch! Keep at it!
(I will see if I can reproduce the Nan:Nan bug you encountered and fix it. ;) )1June 6, 2018 11:40am #2515Okay great, that helps a lot, and I think you're generally on a good track. :)
I'd suggest adding a step to your underwork -- and this should be the very first thing you do, before you even put the major shape bubbles in place. Decide on and record with a single pencil stroke the "action line/line of action" Here's some examples of what that means with human poses, but it's the same concept with animals. https://line-of-action.com/gesture-basics-1-line-of-action/ Then put your shapes on top of that line of action, letting the curve of the line influence where your major shapes go. This can help to unstiffen your poses considerably.
To get you into this concept, I'd also suggest that you do some warmups with much much shorter poses, max 2 minutes but I'd encourage you to even try 30 seconds or less, with your focus primarily (maybe only!) on capturing that action line, following this practice philosophy: https://line-of-action.com/happens-30-seconds-isnt-enough/ before you try your 30 minute poses again. (The class modes on this site are built for exactly this kind of practice, if you want to take advantage of them!)
A lot of times stiffness is an indicator of concern about getting your drawing "wrong," whereas the impression of fluid motion comes from, well, allowing more fluidity in your technique.
Hope this helps! Definitely show us your next batch of practice sketches!1 -
