Gesture Class 455-X

by Kite, January 7th 2019 © 2019 Kite

Done as part of a 30 minute class divided in groups of 30s, 60s, 2x5min and 1x10min sketches.

My current goal is: Better understand human anatomy, so I can render imagined poses.

In the longer poses, I seem to have a problem going on with making too many lines and I am trying to simplify the volumes. The risk of doing so is that I end up making contour lines instead of following the overall gestures, which produces inconsistent and stiff lines every now and then.

Wow, your drawings really have a lot of fluidity to them!

Though, if your goal is a better understanding of human anatomy, it might make sense to sacrifice some of that fluidity for now and work on building the body out of 3D shapes. The women's torso in your longest drawing looks kind of like taffy, and I think the more detailed your drawings get, the more that lack of underlying form hurts them.

Once you have that knowledge of the underlying forms down, I think you'll be able to add the fluidity back in, and be able to create some really striking stuff!

Thank you very much! I will be sure to keep that in mind.
